The Government of New Zealand has a new website which aims to inform potential migrants about the many aspects of living and working in New Zealand. The website is www.newzealandnow.govt.nz

That website is currently only in the English language, but it is definitely aimed at all countries with close historic and cultural relations, such as Holland.

A first step for those interested in moving to New Zealand is to register your details on the website, by clicking here. People who register receive information on relevant job vacancies and events coming their way.

The www.newzealandnow.govt.nz home page is regularly updated and a good place to hear the latest migration news, and leads to several pages about life in New Zealand. There is a map where you can scroll to get information on any NZ city, as well as general information such as cost of living and housing. There are also interviews with migrants and information on education and the health system.

Jobs are possibly the most important aspect of moving to another country, so there is a section devoted entirely to ‘jobs and events’ aimed at putting Dutch people in touch with New Zealand Companies that recruit in Europe. You can find out when there is an event near you, in order to meet New Zealand recruiters face-to-face. Some NZ employers will be at the Emigrate event in Utrecht in March 2009. There is also a list of employer websites, so you can e-mail your CV to potential employers and begin a dialogue about jobs and interviews. If you are 18-30 years old and contemplating going to New Zealand on a working holiday, you can find information on casual jobs on www.immigration.govt.nz/whs.

There is also a section ‘invest in New Zealand’ for business people thinking of investing or seeking to start their own business in New Zealand.

Before you make a decision to move to New Zealand, you will need to think about visas. These are explained on www.immigration.govt.nz. Broadly speaking, migrants have a choice between the relatively quick and easy temporary ‘Essential Skills’ work visa or the more complex ‘Skilled Migrant Category’ for those seeking permanent residence. Immigration New Zealand (London Branch) travels to the Emigration Event in Utrecht each year and will be there on7th & 8th March 2009 for their 5th year running. They expect to be as busy as ever, giving 1:1 advice and providing more in-depth seminars. Websites are a good starting point, but nothing compares to a face-to-face consultation.

People wanting to study in New Zealand will also need a visa, a process explained on www.immigration.govt.nz. Click here to go straight to the relevant webpage. Visas are usually easy to get if you are enrolled in an appropriate course in New Zealand. For advice on finding the right course go to www.studyoptions.co.uk
