Welcome in Australia stand 246

Many people arrive in Australia each year to enjoy their holidays, take up studies, training or employment and to settle permanently. Last financial year for example, almost 12 Mio people came to Australia.
A visa is necessary for everyone coming to Australia who is not a citizen. Australia offers a large visa programme with many different visa types depending on your situation. You can get first-hand visa information on the official Australian Government information website at: www.immi.gov.au
The Visa Wizard on this website can help you find the Australian visa most suitable for your specific circumstances: www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/
What are the major visa options?
Working Holiday Maker Visa
This visa is for certain nationals (for example Dutch, German, Belgian and French) between 18 and 30 years of age to have an extended holiday and it also allows short-term employment. www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday/
General Skilled Migration
The General Skilled Migration program is for people who are not sponsored by an employer and who have skills in particular occupations required in Australia. A basic requirement is that your occupation is on the general Skilled Occupations List (SOL): www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121i.pdf
Further basic requirements for Skilled Migration are:
Age under 45 years, good English language ability, and recent skilled work experience or a recently completed eligible Australian qualification. Please see: www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/
It is an important step in the application process for skilled migration to have your overseas skills formally recognised in Australia. You can get more detailed information about your skilled occupation at the Australia Skills Recognition Information page (www.immi.gov.au/asri/). This page provides assistance with job descriptions, the required Australian skill level and licensing/ registration requirements.
State and Territory governments may nominate visa applicants who have an occupation that is in shortage in their particular State or Territory. State-specific information on the skilled workers sought in the various regions in Australia is available at: www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/nom-by-state-terr-gov.htm

Temporary Business Long Stay Visa
If you are nominated by an Australian employer (or European overseas company) to work in a particular job in Australia for a period of up to 4 years, this visa may be suitable. www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/sbs/
Business Visas
Australia welcomes the entry of successful business persons. Several visa types are available if you wish to establish a business, manage a new or existing business or invest in Australia. www.immi.gov.au/skilled/business/visa-options.htm
Partner Migration
If you are the partner of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, you may apply to remain permanently in Australia. Partners include: people intending to get married, married partners and de-facto partners (including those in a same sex relationship). www.germany.embassy.gov.au/beln/partner_engl.html
Student Visas
The Australian Government operates an overseas student program, which enables people to study in Australia. www.immi.gov.au/students/students/chooser/
To find out about registered institutes and courses, please see the Study in Australia website at: www.studyinaustralia.gov.au
Visitor Visas
If you would like to come to Australia for a holiday or short-term business visit, you may be able to apply for one of the electronic visa options. Further details are at: www.germany.embassy.gov.au/beln/visitors.html
