PRESS RELEASE; The Hague, 8 February 2011

Record number of visitors to Emigration Expo: interest in emigration increasing

The 15th Emigration Expo (12 and 13 February at Expo Houten) is already assured of an absolute record number of visitors. Up until now fifteen percent more tickets than the total number of visitors last year have been sold via internet sales and more than 11,000 visitors are expected.

305 Dutch people move abroad every day

Interest in emigration increases every year. The population register from the Central Bureau for Statistics (CBS) shows that 305 residents of The Netherlands move abroad every day*. This number is expected to increase to 357 per day in the future. Research by the NIDI (Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute) shows that adventure, rest, space, nature and safety are named as important reasons for emigration. Emigrants are more and more troubled by the population density, traffic jams, cost of living, criminality and the social problems around the multicultural society.
The Emigration Expo is the starting point for people who are interested in living, working, schooling/work placement and running a business abroad. The two-day Expo provides insight into all the advantages of emigration and it does this with the support of about three hundred companies, foreign regional organisations and about 80 presentations which are given in 7 rooms.

A total of almost 1 million job vacancies are on offer at the Emigration Expo

Around 90 job vacancies per visitor, man and woman, waiting at the exhibition to be filled. More specialised professional groups are also finding their way abroad via the Emigration Expo. Swedish regions are now giving presentations to general practitioners, veterinarians and IT personnel. The French regions of Bourgogne and the Auvergne are too, but countries such as Australia and New Zealand are also looking for medical personnel. In the Agriculture Plaza farmers can find out about Canada for instance.

Opening by Swedish Ambassador. Carla Peijs will also be present.

The Emigration Expo will be opened on Saturday 12 February at 10.00 by Håkan Emsgård, the Swedish ambassador to The Netherlands. Other dignitaries will also find their way to the Emigration Expo. Carla Peijs, Royal Commissioner in Zeeland, will officially launch the website www.zeeuwsvlaanderendatwerkt.nl at the exhibition on Saturday at 11.00.

A free shuttle bus will leave from Houten station. The entry price for the Emigration Expo is € 15 at the door, or € 10 when pre-booked via www.emigratiebeurs.nl.
