WE ARE LOOKING FOR: CONSULTANT IN ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY MEDICINE
A&E consultants are highly qualified doctors who oversee the care of emergency patients, usually during their first four hours in hospital. This may involve anything from critical illnesses such as stroke or cardiac arrest to unspecified malaise or minor cuts to major road traffic accidents.
While many healthcare professionals are involved in caring for each individual patient, the A&E consultant takes a lead role, ensuring that the right team, equipment and medication is prepared to respond to the needs of each patient.
The A&E consultant is involved throughout the patient journey in the emergency care department, overseeing the process and providing the patient with direct care, while also updating families on the findings and outlook for that patient. The A&E consultant is also very important for selection and evaluation of patients who do not need admission but can receive adequate treatment at home.
In this highly varied role, A&E consultants see a very rapid turnover of patients and need to have excellent team-working skills under pressure. This is a very rewarding role, in which you can make a vital difference to a great number of patients on a daily basis. However, one downside is that you may not know what happens to your patient after they are admitted.
What we expect from you:
We expect that you are able to work in a multi-professional team. We expect a positive and flexible attitude and good communication skills. A good sense of humor is appreciated. You need of course to learn the Norwegian language both written and oral at a high level.
What you can expect from us:
We have a 40 hours working week. Normal working days are from 08.00 a.m. until 15.30 p.m. Senior consultants are on call every 6th day/weekend. We have always a junior consultant on call. Everybody in Norway has 5 weeks holiday per year, you will have in addition 2 weeks off and the Friday after a weekend-duty is a day-off. You have the opportunity to visit congresses/courses 10 days per year with full salary and specialist have a sabbatical period with full salary from 4 months every 5th year.
The hospital can be helpful with housing, looking for job-possibilities for a partner and schools for children. We will organize Norwegian language courses.
